lakeside-714749_1280Summer is one of the best times of the year to dive into a few great books. Most of the mainstream television shows are on hiatus, so you can easily convert that time into reading. The days are longer, so you can even relax outside enjoying the fresh air and the latest books from these wonderful authors. If you’re traveling by plane, train or bus, becoming immersed in a great story helps make the trip go faster. Whether you prefer paperbacks or your e-reader, you can find what you’re looking for at your local library or online.

Stephen King

Master of suspense Stephen King has a new novel out, Finders Keepers. The characters were first introduced in his previous work, Mr. Mercedes. Stephen King’s stories are always a delight — the everyman trying to survive when faced with a creepy and dangerous situation. You might want to read this sitting on your deck on a bright sunny day.

Neal Stephenson

If science fiction is more your speed, prolific, bestselling author Neal Stephenson’s new novel Seveneves recounts what happens when the human race attempts to return to Earth. Like King, he has thrilled readers for decades. His works span fields, such as mathematics, philosophy and cryptography. His tales are epic, dense stories.

Kate Atkinson

Atkinson follows her successful novel, Life After Life, which tells the story of Ursula Todd, with a sequel of sorts. In A God in Ruins, another Todd sibling, Teddy is the protagonist. Teddy survives wartime, struggling to adapt to his life. Atkinson crosses genres, also writing crime fiction, with the Jackson Brodie series.
